Pileated Woodpecker
"Woody"
"Woody" appeared one day on our bird feeder. The Pileated Woodpecker is a beautiful and facinating bird with it's brilliant red crest, loud call and reconized hammering through out our forest.
There has always been a soft spot in my heart for the woodpeckers. Even as a child I enjoyed watching them.

Black Bears and The Great Smoky Mountains
"Woodland" Black Bears in the Great Smoky Mountains
Today I have finished an oil painting "Woodland". It is a look into the woods of The Great Smoky Mountains.
Having been raised in the mountains I have always loved to be deep in the woods and noticing all the plants and wildlife from large to small.
In this painting the Bears are the main focus but glancing around you will see a buck deer, two does, turkey, a hawk, woodpecker squirrel and turtle. Just a few of what would be found in the forest.

Capturing a fleeting moment in the lives of birds
Woodland Song
Capturing a fleeting moment in the lives of birds is a difficult thing to accomplish.
It has been a couple years ago that my husband and I were riding along the back roads of Tennessee looking at property to possibly purchase. As we made a turn up this single lane road I glanced to my right and among the fallen logs and branches there was one decaying tree stump and perched on that stump was a beautiful Pileated Woodpecker and a spot of sunlight shining on his red crest. That image has forever remained with me.
"Woodland Song" is an oil painting of mine that captured a moment of that time.
Please check my website for more wildlife painting. Also check the last blog for my painting give-away.
